Bought it from a friend a year ago. It had been sitting since 2012 (when it ran last). I drove in it in 2012 and it ran great, but the starter was going out. He bought a starter but never put it in.
I installed the starter and did a tune up. We poured Marvel mystery oil in the cylinders and turned the motor by hand, noticing some rust that was being reduced. It turned over and had spark but no compression in #3 cylinder. Pulled head and saw that the valve was indeed stuck open. Also noticed the push rod was slightly bent. Soaked the head in vinegar for a day and Mystery oil another day, which removed the rust and carbon holding the valve.
In the mean time, I pulled the motor. I also pulled the motor from a 1966 Spitfire to put into the Herald. Getting ready to install motor but have to change flywheel out first. I'm ordering head gasket set for original motor today. I bought new push rods but have not found the push rod sleeves at a reasonable cost.
There is some rust on the floor panels where you can expect it. Overall, rust is not a significant issue. It's got all hubcaps (1 temp misplaced), all glass is there with no cracks. Needs paint. Dash is good, interior vinyl original, back seat looks pretty good. All the chrome is good without dents except the tail light bezel(s). No tail light lenses. The driver door is off and presently I am having trouble finding a hinge.
And it needs a bath.. I'll send some pics here in a few. Let me know if you have any questions.
