This 1977 Toyota FJ40 is located in our Louisville KY showroom. The Toyota J40 is the model designation for a Toyota Land Cruiser 40 series made from 1960 until 1984 (in Brazil, where it was known as the Toyota Bandeirante, it was made from 1968 until 2001). Most 40 series Land Cruisers were built as two-door vehicles with slightly larger dimensions than a Jeep CJ. While not legal in some countries, most J40 series vehicles could have their roof and doors removed. With a folding windshield this allowed for complete open-air experience. These alternatives to the Classic Jeep have a following all their own and the demand to find and owned these rugged 4x4’s is on the rise. This particular FJ40 is a true barn find that has been brought back to its glory buy the current owner. Covered in dust and a back yard black paint job, the owner could envision the diamond in the ruff this jewel was to become. A fresh battery, little gas down the carb and the rock solid 4.2 liter 2F inline 6 cylinder came to life. With the engine in such good shape, the engine compartment only required a good clean up. The body of this classic 4x4 was another story. The body was media blasted with the intent to repaint, but then owner discovered the condition of the front fenders (“holes as big as your fist”); he immediately got on the phone and ordered brand new ones. The interior of this FJ40 has been kept simple with addition on new Beard Seat, new headliner, and new Tuffy console. The sides and floor pans were then sprayed with a Linex coating for easy cleaning and durability. The body panels were also replaced to make sure this FJ40 would be a solid reliable runner for years to come. Since the owner works for Sherwin Williams, he decided to paint the Toyota 4x4 using products he was familiar with. The Tan Ultra 7000 base coat clear system was applied. To finish off the good looks of the exterior, new bumpers and lights were added. The finishing touch for the outside of the FJ40 are custom “Black Mountain Edition” decals the owner had designed. He joking told us it is “One of One very limited edition”. Even though there is no such rare limited edition, is it still a very cool and tasteful finishing touch. To keep this SUV rolling, a new set of Pro Comp Shocks, new Pro Comp steel wheel with Pro Comp Xtreme MT2 tires. If you are looking for a classic 4x4, but something different than all your Jeep friends have, then give us a call. This FJ40 is sure to sell fast and will be tearing up a trail way near you, so don’t miss out!
