This 1935 Studebaker Dictator for sale at the California Automobile Museum is a great example of early art deco styling with its narrow raked grille and swooping fenders. This Dictator has survived 79 years and is in good overall condition.
This Studebaker Dictator is a very solid. The body panels are straight and there aren't any indications of body filler or rust. The paint on the vehicle is an older lacquer job and there are cracks in the paint along some of the body lines and also some lacquer checking in various areas. I have tried to picture some of those areas the best I could. The bumpers are straight and the front one has pretty good chrome on it but the rear bumper has an area where the chrome has peeled off. The lenses on the Studebaker are in good condition and do not have any cracks. The beautiful grill is complete, the slats are straight and the chrome surround is in great condition. The glass in the vehicle is free of cracks but there are some pieces that some de lamination has started at the edges. The doors open and close solidly and they are sturdy on their hinges. The Coker Classic white wall tires are in good condition and have 9/32nds of tread on them but have date codes of 4400, which represent the 44th week of 2000. The vinyl top insert is complete and does not have any rips or tears.
The interior is in fantastic condition. The seats are clean and comfortable and do not have any rips or tears. The door panels are clean and complete. All of the windows roll up and down as they should. The carpet in the rear passenger compartment is in good shape and does not show any wear however there are a couple of small spots on it. The rubber floor mat in the front section is complete but does have some tears on the passenger side. The wood floor boards look to be in great condition. The headliner is really nice and is also clean. The dash is complete with all the knobs in place.
The Studebaker starts up easily and idles nicely. The engine seems to have good power and the standard transmission shifts as it should. This vehicle is equipped with an electric fuel pump that along with the carbuetor and vacuum advance were all rebuilt in 2013. Electrically this vehicle seems to be very sound. All of the lights work as they should and turn indicators have been installed for added safety and they are working correctly. The gauges in the dash all appear to be working correctly as well. The windshield wipers are the only item I know to not be operational.
This 1935 Studebaker Dictator is in very good overall condition. This vehicle is very complete and would be great to keep as is for a nice driver or a great candidate to be freshened up. SOLD
