Thanks for stopping by to take a look at our very cool 1976 Porsche 912e. Placed in our care years ago, she is now being offered for sale. Revived for the 1976 model year only and only for the USA, the 912e replaced the retiring 914. The water cooled 924 would not debut until 1977.
The 912e car turned out to be one of the most fun Porsches to drive with well balanced power, fuel injection, great brakes and gorgeous looks. This is car number 000092, a very early car of the 2100 produced. It’s the one you want in the right colour and with the right pedigree.
Rarity
Between 2080 and 2100 912e cars were produced and they were made solely for the US market. Many succumbed to rust, accidents, engine changes and the ravages of time. Relatively few remain in the wild today. Our research shows few original cars are available.
Exterior
We think the Emerald Green Metallic paint is gorgeous. There are some flaws noticeable upon close inspection. Our resident inspector Tomo notes the slight traces of minor paint repairs: a tiny bit of overlapped clear coat is visible inside the door frame. Please review the video and see the photos. Original chrome and stainless greenhouse accents. Right side rearview mirror. Factory supplied Fuchs wheels. Crested center caps.
Interior
Beautiful interior upholstery, carpet, dash, headliner and door panels. Nice dash. Crested leather shift knob. 3 point front seat belts. Fold down rear seats. Excellent panel fit. JVC audio with 4 speakers. Removeable faceplate.
Floors
Floors are original and California solid. See the photos
Boot/Trunk
Appears all original. Two California license plates, tags expired 2013. Enthusiast light repair manual. Hell hole is clean. No rust or damage. No spare or tools. Period Clifford alarm system is being removed. No remote.
Wheels, Tires
14” Fuchs alloy wheels with new 205/60/R14 tires. Porsche crested center caps.
Engine
Awesome running 2.0 flat four with Bosch Jet-tronic fuel injection. All of the smog equipment is present and operating. Magnaflow exhaust.
Transmission
The 5 speed manual transmission is working properly and feels great.
Braking
Four wheel disc brakes. New pads.
Service
Fresh service, turnkey and ready to go. Fresh oil and filters. We understand that the car was previously maintained by the famed Otto’s Porsche Service in Venice. Unfortunately, no records either exist or can be found. Otto and the former owner of this car both passed in 2013.
Trim
The trim is in good to excellent shape. The “smile” rubber strip above the front bumper is beginning to deform a bit. There’s a thin flat metal sheet inside the rubber that is there to keep the rubber semi rigid. As that metal decays, the rubber deforms. The OEM part is inexpensive and available on ebay. Glass
The glass is in good to excellent condition. Correct original Sekurit German glass except for the windshield which is clear. OEM rear window defogger.
Odometer
The odometer shows 217,929 miles. Plus a few for shows and whatever other excuse we can come up with to drive this one! Hmmm…. Monterey is next month. Call or write for exact mileage if it’s important.
DMV / Documentation
The title is clear. A current non- op certificate is on file so there will be no back fees. A California smog certificate is provided for California residents. Very low cost Antique registration and insurance for most US States. A binder with pictures, detailed information, receipts and specs is included. Porsche Certificate of Authenticity has been ordered.
Comparables
There are very few comparable 76 Porsche 912e cars for sale at this time. Perhaps you can find a car that needs work, has been rebuilt or previously wrecked or hot rodded. Find a real car in excellent survivor condition with great eye appeal and you have a very few cars indeed. Given the extreme scarcity of available cars, this Porsche 912e represents an outstanding value that can be enjoyed immediately as well as being an appreciating investment in automotive art.
