Here is a link to a sister car that sold a year ago for 310,750.00 at The January 18, 2013 Scottsdale Auctions by Gooding & Company (The last photo.)
At the request of American importer Max Hoffman, 356s for the USA 1955 model year were badged as Continentals before reaching American shores.
As Lincoln protested the Continental name being used, the Porsche Continental was only produced in 1955 and thus represented the ultimate Pre-A 1500 before 356A production commenced in 1956, Resulting in Porsche changing the name from Continental to European in 1956. Only 22 examples were made before Porsche stoping production of the European in early 1956.
