The 1956 Pontiac Chieftain was produced by the Pontiac from 1949 to 1958. The 1956 model Chieftains came out with a completely new chassis, body and engine. For the first time, Pontiac produced a V8 engine. These are very sought after engines today. The engine was the biggest news as this was Pontiac's first V8. The new V8 had a 316.6 cu in (5.2 L) displacement and 205 horsepower.
