The Road Runner is a performance car built by Plymouth from 1968 to 1980. Plymouth paid Warner Bros. to use the name and likeness of their Road Runner cartoon character and set out to build a basic mid sized performance car. Everything essential to handling and performance was beefed up and everything nonessential was left out. The interior had a basic vinyl bench seat, lacking even carpets in early models and just a few options were available. The standard engine for a non a/c car was a 383 ci V8 rated at 335 hp that was exclusive to the Road Runner. 1970 brought new front and rear end looks with updates that included a new grille, hood, front fenders, quarter panels, a cloth & vinyl bench seat, single-piston Kelsey-Hayes disc brakes and scoops in the rear quarters. The design and functionality of the Air Grabber option was also changed to increase efficiency and it was upgraded with a switch that controls a vacuum operated servo which raises the forward-facing scoop exposing shark-like teeth on either side. This particular example was ordered in Plum Crazy Purple and optioned with a Torqueflite automatic transmission, a 3:91 posi rear end, power assisted brakes, an Air Grabber hood, roof drip rail moldings, a 26” radiator and bucket seats with a console. It is believed to be a 3 owner car. The 2nd owner purchased it in 1986 and sold to a dealer in 2007 that the current owner purchased it from that same year with 75,000 original miles. The following year the car began what turned out to be a 3 year frame off restoration. During the restoration the interior was changed from black to white and the exterior stripes were changed from white to black. Other than the mentioned color changes and the wheels the car is as it was delivered new with a completely numbers matching driveline. During the restoration the engine was rebuilt by Track Tamer Engines out of DeWitt, IA and it comes with a binder dedicated to the engine rebuild itself. The odometer was reset during the restoration and currently shows 446 miles. This car is in pristine condition and as a result appraises for the high NADA value which is currently $50,120. We know it is a buyers market and have priced the car accordingly so if you could see this sweet Plum Crazy Road Runner sitting in your garage you better pick up the phone before someone else does!
