For sale at Gateway Classic Cars is a 1965 Plymouth Barracuda. Painted in a MOPAR favorite, Plum Crazy Purple. Complimenting the exterior is a newer vinyl interior sporting bucket seats and a Hurst Quarter Stick shifter controlling the 3 speed automatic transmission. Powering this Barracuda is a 318 cubic inch small block that makes a sound that will scare most imports back to their garage. 1965 was the second year for the Barracuda and things were in full swing. Engine options included a 225 cubic inch Slant six as the standard engine. The optional 273 was now upgraded and renamed the Commando. This package featured 10.5:1 compression, a four barrel carburetor and solid lifter camshaft. This brought the 273's horsepower up from 180 horse power all the way up to 235 horsepower! The Formula S package was also introduced in 1965.. This package was standard with the new 273 and also came with front disc brakes, larger wheels and tires, tachometer, special emblems, a tighter suspension and A/C. This was surely the top of the line for the Barracuda. As great as the Formula S was, some opted for the more standard Barracuda but still with the awesome 273. They felt the car was a better straight line performer with less weight than the heavily optioned Formula S. That's were this Barracuda fits in, manual brakes, manual steering and no A/C. This car was ordered with nothing in mind but going fast. The original engine in this car is long gone, but worry not as the current engine is a 318. More cubes to produce similar power without the strain of high compression and a big solid lifter camshaft. Keeping this Barracuda glued to the road is a set of BFGoodrich Radial T/As measuring 245/60r14 in the rear and 235/60r14 up front. IF you're looking for a cool MOPAR and don't want to pay for a Road Runner or a Challenger, give this one a look.
