Packard retained its position as the most successful of America’s luxury automobiles as the gloom and despair following Black Tuesday, October 29, 1929, spread across the nation and the world.
Part of a large collection, it is attractively restored by Dragone Classic Motor Cars in CT, it was painted in the soft Packard cream with brown fenders with matching wired wheels.
The effect of the longer hood is emphasized by its passenger compartment tightly tucked between the wheels and the Sidemounted wheels that were an option in 1930, further exaggerating the length of the car and its slanted windshield. The wire wheels are painted to match the body color and nicely carry white wall tires. Accessories include two Pilot-Ray driving lights, windshield wind wings, dual mirrors, radiator stoneguard, Goddess Of Speed radiator mascot, and a rear seat windshield with folding wind wings, two fold out seats that face forward, folding foot rest, wood trim, rare rear chest with matching cover, interior door lights and full leather interior. The rear windshield slides down two pillars to stow behind the front seat. Passengers are protected by a new tan Haartz cloth top with Packard’s distinctive extended front that creates a visor above the windshield.
It received a conscientious restoration some years ago and evidences consistent care and attention along with some use. It has received multiple awards including first prize in the AACA show and recently been professionally mechanically refreshed to make it an ideal classic era car for events, tours and parades where it can be displayed proudly at the end of a day’s run.
