The term "muscle car" would not be applied to cars until the mid 1960's but it should have ben used on the 1949 and 1950 Oldsmobile "Rocket" 88's. These cars used the new Kettering concept OHV V8 short-stroke high performance engines in a smaller lighter body and they were correctly labeled "Rockets"! Offered with both 3-speed manual or 4-speed automatic, the Olds 88 was universally admired. However, while these cars were good sellers, the futuramic were built in only limited quantities. This 1950 Olds "Rocket" 88 4-doors rocket 88 features a 303 cubic inch, 135 horsepower, OHV V8 and 4-speed "Hydro" automatic transmission. Very rare indeed, today!
