Here it is, one of the rarest and most sought after Oldsmobile muscle cars ever made, a real 1970 442 convertible and this one doesn’t need anything for you to enjoy, in fact it’s a recent Oldsmobile Club of America national award winner. Its easy to see why as the body is incredibly solid and strait. The car is well optioned with original OAI Ram Air hood (yes it real) and air-cleaner, non a/c, 4 speed manual transmission, 4 core radiator, 12 bolt Posi-traction rear ( I believe the ratio is 3:42 but cannot guarantee the ratio as I didn’t opening the rear to check) w27 cover, power disc brakes, dual sport mirrors, 4 spoke factory sport wheel, and the buyers choice of SS1 or SS2 factory rims. The car is driven and will be sold with raised white letter radial tires not the original Wide Ovals that are good for shows but not the best for driving. The car is equipped with an original rally pack (working tick-toc-tach) gauges and original working am/fm stereo. The car has a very nice body, very clean underneath and a spectacular frame. Car handles and brakes great with very tight steering and suspension.

The engine and compartment are meticulously detailed to stock appearance with date coded wired, correct color engine, and more original clips, springs, clamps and hardware than I can list however the date coded 70 engine was rebuilt slightly stronger than stock to match the performance of the 70 w-30 as much as possible. The transmission shifts well, clutch is great, and even the reverse lock out is working correctly. The car has all the correct labels and stickers under the hood and in the trunk and door jam, The car has been shown and is in very respectable condition, even the trunk is detailed with spare, jack, tire hold down, tire Iron clips, and correct trunk matt.

The paint is the original code 55 galleon gold and the paint looks fresh and bright but has some minor touched up chips and scratches. Both the chrome and stainless trim on this car are in very nice condition with only minor signs of wear. The hood and side stripes are factory correct to blue print. And while It lacks the 100K+ flawlessness of a new un-driven restoration it is very correctly restored and is well maintained so purists should find the car satisfactory and it can be entered in the stock class at shows. That said there is a reason I am not asking over 100K, I drive my cars so if you’re looking for a flawless trailer queen that is ready to go to auction you’ll have to do some work or pay me to do it for you.
The black interior is clean and in exceptional condition, I recently had the dash completely rebuilt so every little light, gage and switch would be working perfectly for the national show, the Dash looks awesome and all the vents, and components not only look great but work as they should. All the seats are soft and in good repair even the chrome beading on the backs and bases is bright and in excellent repair. The carpet and the door panels were just replaced with legendary products. The console, shifter, sport wheel and dash are all in good condition making the interior a major plus over most cars this age.

The car is garage kept and enjoyed summers only for years and based on the cleanliness of the undercarriage and overall condition of the car I believe the previous owners treated it in the same manner.

If the new owner would like any minor issues addressed to bring the car to a higher level of restoration I can arrange for that work at a reasonable additional cost for the buyer but the car is sold as is. If the buyer doesn’t specify otherwise the car will be ready for pick up with original ss2 wheels. Pick up and shipping are the responsibility of the buyer but I will work with the buyer to coordinate and if agreed upon before the sale is final I can help with local transport as the car is registered and can be driven. Also the car is sold with state of CT transfer of ownership (registration) and if requested by the buyer a Q1 CT state bill of sale. Please ask any questions or discuss special arrangements with me before the end of auction to avoid problems. No dead beat bidders please.
As you may know the 70 455 engine was rated at approximately 360 HP and 510 foot pounds of torque which has led to the 1970 442 being the most desired and valuable, among the 442’s the convertibles with 4 speed, OAI and rally pack are clearly the best investment with them routinely selling at auction in the 100-150k range. The car is not flawless or 100% perfect but it is a legitimate 442 (not a clone) and an exceptionally clean survivor. To compensate for any imperfections or wear I have set the buy it now at half the price the last 4 speed 70 convertible I saw sell at auction
One last thing… did I mention this car is a recent Oldsmobile Club of America (OCA) National award winner.
I encourage serious buyers to view the car in person but understand that is not always possible so I will try to help answer any questions you might have.
The car has pretty Low millage and based on the condition it’s probably original but I can’t guarantee that so the car is Sold where is as is with no warranty expressed or implied. Again I encourage all serious buyers to inspect and drive the car. call with questions and maybe you can drive this classic 4 speed ram air convertible 442 home soon at about half of what you would pay at auction for a similarly equipped car. Thanks, John @ 203-631-0184
