Up for sale in our Tampa Showroom, is this 1954 Mercury Monterey, called “The Junkyard Dog”. This legendary car has raced the La Carrera Panamericana race twice, placing 46th out of over 100 drivers. It comes equipped with top notch safety features only found in race cars like Jaz window nets, RCI 5-point harnesses, Battery shut-off and a full 8 point roll cage. The original engine has been taken out and replaced with a more modern Lincoln Mark VII 5.0 H.O. To slam all the power to the tires, the Junkyard Dog has been fitted with a World Class 5-speed manual transmission, and a Ford 8.8” differential. Also equipped is a full set of 4-wheel disk brakes. It has been fitted with a rack and pinion steering system. Inside the car, it has been fitted with a full telescoping/tilt steering column out of a Cadillac. The front and rear windshields have been kept original glass, however the side windows have been fitted with a shatter-proof Plexiglas replacement. All the original badging that came with the car was left completely intact to show off the historic value of this car. Besides racing in the La Carrera Panamericana twice, it had also raced in the Salt Flats in 2007 at nearly 150 MPH. The Junkyard Dog was featured in the movie “Junkyard to the Finish Line (2001)” which shows this very same car, with the driver, as he saved this car from the junkyard, restored the vehicle and raced it in the Panamericana. Options include 4 wheel disk power brakes, Rack and Pinion steering, 5 Point Racing Harnesses, Window Nets, 6 point Roll Cage, Cloth Interior and a separate Fuel Cell in the trunk.
