Thanks for stopping by to take a look at our very cool 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible. This original California car is an excellent, rust free, example of which there are very few left. Fresh respray in Competition Orange Pearl Metallic, she really stands out.
Conceived as a sister car to Ford’s Mustang, the Cougar was the refined older brother. Provided with plenty of go fast from the legendary 351 Cleveland mill and superior ride and handling, the Cougar XR7 was for those who had arrived.
Mustangs, Camaros and Mopars are fairly common in at the show and shine but seeing a Cougar in the wild is relatively rare. And it’s certainly nice driving something different from the crowd.
Rarity
The Gen 2 Cougar was only made for two years, 1969 and 1970. Most were driven hard and relatively few remain in the wild today. The top of the line XR7 cars like this one had leather interiors and nice upgrades. Of course, the convertibles were a small percentage of overall production. This rare-ish 70 XR7 Convertible is particularly hard to duplicate with it’s original leather interior and low original mileage. Our research shows few cars of this caliber are available.

The automatic FMX transmission shifts beautifully. Transmission cooler in place.

Comparables
There are very few comparable 70 Cougar XR7 Convertibles cars for sale at this time. Perhaps you can find a car that needs work, has been rebuilt or previously wrecked or has had metal work done with repop panels. Given the extreme scarcity of available cars, this Cougar represents an outstanding value that can be enjoyed immediately as well as being an appreciating investment in automotive art.
