The Mercedes-Benz SL Class is a luxury roadster that was first introduced for the 1954 model year. The SL designation was first applied to the 300SL and has since been marketed in many variations with numerous engine configurations that span 6 design generations. The 3rd generation SL was available from 1972 – 1989. This European version actually has a smaller engine compared to the US version (560SL) but because it did not have the same smog equipment as the US models it was actually quicker and more fuel efficient. Other desirable features include the smaller European bumpers and headlights which give this model a cleaner look. This particular example is a 2 family car that has been in the same family since 1991 and currently has 48,627 original miles. It was driven often up until about 10 years ago. The 2nd owner’s son took possession of the car not long ago and decided to have a complete mechanical restoration done to it which was just completed in April of 2018. The restoration was done by Pelham Brothers in Clinton, IA who are considered one of the best Mercedes specialists in the country. Almost every mechanical part and wear item was replaced during this restoration which cost in excess of $21,000. The paint is 100% original and in incredible condition considering its age. The soft top was replaced during the restoration. Other than that the rest of the bill was all for mechanical and service work. All said and done this is one of the tightest SL’s currently on the market. Considering the restoration work and the overall condition of this vehicle we would appraise it at $39,900. We know it is a buyer’s market and are serious about selling this beauty so it has been priced accordingly. If you are in the market for a SL you have found the nicest one currently on the market so if you like what you see you better call before it is too late! SOLD
