I purchased this car In Stuttgart in 1984 and imported it myself, evidenced by the huge amount of paperwork I have. The previous owner was a woman and it was their second car. This vehicle has always been garaged and although you do need to smog it in California, they are not allowed to touch the engine. The DOT added the bars in the doors and reinforced the bumpers as well as changing a few things. She still has the original Euro lights and you will notice the bumpers are much more attractive than the U.S. version. This has been my wife's car and been in storage for most of the last 18 years, coming out for a few hundred miles each summer. Everything works and she has the original Med kit, tool kit, and fire extinguisher. The custom made and dyed to match sheepskin seats were a present from me in 1986, the seats beneath are in perfect condition as is the rear seat. After a small rear end collision the paint work did not match and I had the entire car repainted to the original color and the paint work is in wonderful condition. The front and real spoilers are original, installed at the factory. The transmission is smooth and in great shape. I drove her across country last year and only consumed .75 liters of oil in 2,800 miles averaging 75 to 80 mph. 1979 was the first year for CIS and the dual overhead cam. The A/C was converted last year to R 134a and is ice cold with a new compressor and dryer. There are no door dings or other marks on the body work. If you want an Autoban car that has no emission controls yet has always had high marks on her smog reports and drives like a dream then this is the one for you. The stereo has been updated, but the original Becker will go with her. I hate to let her go, but need to lease this home out and have no other storage options. She will show well with only minimal clean up in the engine compartment. Mileage is in km and is approxomately 172,000 carefully driven miles, I used to show 300 SLs and have spent some time with Q tips. SOLD
