The Skyliner retractable hardtop mechanism is comprised of the following:
7 reversible electric motors
10 relays
13 switches
9 circuit breakers
610 feet of extra wiring.
According to Automotive International there were 20,766 retractable hardtops built in 1957, they weighed in at 3,916 pounds and had a base
Price of $2,942 plus options. As of the time a survey was taken in 1981
Only 4,170 of them were still in existence. This is undoubtedly a rare
Model in that it had factory installed air conditioning along with the 292cid Thunderbird special engine with 4-barrel carburetor, Fordomatic, power steering, power brakes, cigar lighter and an AM radio.
