The third-generation Mustang was produced by Ford from 1978 to 1993 and was built on Ford’s widely used Fox platform. The front end was changed in 1987 with its no grille front end that eliminated the quad headlights. Also for 1987, V8-powered Mustangs received E7TE heads and forged aluminum pistons which increased power to 225 hp as well as a mass air system which made it much easier to modify. This particular example started as a completely rust free and completely original LX 5.0 coupe with just over 75,000 miles in 2009. Over the course of the last few years the current owner has spent over $25,000 in parts alone to make this gorgeous machine what it is today. The original 302 engine has been significantly upgraded with a NOVI 2000 supercharger, TFS Twisted Wedge heads, a TFS Stage II camshaft, a Comp Cam, Gold roller rockers, hardened push rods, ARP studs, Edelbrock RPM2 upper and lower intakes, an Accufab 75mm throttle body, a Prom M 80mm mass air meter calibrated with 60 lb injectors and a Labonte Stage II methanol kit. It is fed via an Aeromotive 340 fuel pump, it is sparked by a MSD 6AL ignition with a chip and it sounds just plain nasty ripping through its 3” exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers. Fine tuning can be adjusted via the Anderson Ford Motorpsort PMS with FlashACQ kit. It has been dyno tuned at 548 hp to the rear wheels which is estimated at 634 hp to the crank. The 8.8” posi rear end has been built with Moser 31 spline axles, an extra clutch pack, a rear diff stud girdle and has 3:73 gears. The transmission is a Super Heavy Duty Ford Racing T-5 with a throw out bearing, a Tri Ax short throw shifter as well as a Centerforce dual friction clutch and pressure plate. The suspension has been upgraded with Maximum Motorsport springs, 70/30 front frame connectors and 50/50 rear frame connectors. It also has new Weld Racing Rodlite rims with new Mickey Thompson drag radials (275/50R15 rear and 26X6 front). Except for the AEM wideband air/fuel ratio gauge mounted in the A pillar the interior is 100% original and shows incredibly well. The end result is 550 hp Fox Body that is reliable enough to drive daily and clean enough to eat off of. Considering that we are asking half of what this beauty cost to build this one is sure to sell as quick as it goes.
