The 1st generation Ford Mustang was manufactured from 1964 until 1973. Its introduction created a new class of automobile known as the pony car. With its long hood and short deck the Mustang’s styling proved wildly popular and inspired a host of imitators. 1967 was the first redesign of the original model which increased the overall size, interior and cargo space. Exterior trim changes included concave taillights, side scoop and chrome side ornamentation (1968), square rear-view mirrors and the usual yearly wheel and gas cap changes. The air-conditioning option was fully integrated into the dash, both the speakers and stereo were upgraded and the fastback model offered the option of a rear fold-down seat. The 1968 model also increased safety with a two-spoke energy-absorbing steering wheel along with newly introduced shoulder belts. Other changes included front and rear side markers, FORD lettering removed from hood, the rearview mirror moved from the frame to the windshield and a 302 ci V8 engine was made available. This particular example was optioned with 302 ci V8, bucket seats with knitted vinyl, the GT equipment group, a Cruise-O-Matic select shift transmission, F70X14 white wall tires, a sport deck (fold down) rear seat, selectaire conditioner (A/C), stereosonic tape system (8 track), AM radio, front headrests, a tachometer and a trip odometer. Not only that but it was dealer optioned with Ford factory Kelsey Hayes wire wheels that were installed before it was delivered new. The best part of this car is that it has a documented owner history and mileage log dating back to 04/27/68 which is the day it was ordered by the 1st owner. This is a true museum piece with 5,412 original miles. It is 100% original and unrestored with the exception of the battery. It was previously owned by Steve Davis who is currently the president of Barrett-Jackson Auction Co. The current owner purchased it from Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction in 2011. It comes with two portfolios displaying everything that was provided when it was sold new as well as its complete owner history. One of them has all of the originals and the second has copies to leave on display with the car. This has to be the finest and most original 1968 Mustang anywhere and would be a beautiful addition to any collection! For more pictures and a video of the engine visit HotRodsChoppers.com SOLD
