1979 Dodge D150 Lil’ Red Express
The D Series is a line of pickup trucks that was sold by Dodge from 1961 to 1980. The 3rd generation of D series trucks was introduced in 1972 and lasted until 1980. This new series featured rounded fender wells, a scalloped hood, pocketed tail lights and an independent front suspension. These trucks were built with a considerable amount of galvanized steel to resist rust and corrosion making them very durable. The Lil’ Red Express was produced from 1978 – 1979 in very limited production. When it was released in 1978 it was one of the most unique Dodge trucks that had ever been produced and was not only a real looker but was also a real performer. During its debut year it was the fastest American made vehicle from 0 to 100 MPH as tested by Car and Driver. It boasted a high performance 360 ci 4 barrel small block V8 engine producing 225 horsepower. The package also included Hemi style mufflers with a crossover pipe breathing through 2 chrome stacks located behind the cab, a special 727 transmission and 3.55:1 rear gearing. It rode on 15” chrome wheels with raised white letter tires. With the success of the 1978 Dodge Lil' Red Express Truck production of the 1979 model was increased from 2,188 to 5,118. Most of the features remained unchanged however there was some changes which included an added catalytic converter, the ability to run on unleaded gas, an 85 mph speedometer, a new flat hood and dual square headlights. This particular example is a one owner vehicle with 54,678 original miles. It is completely original except for the dealer installed sunroof, the pin stripes and the CD player. The original stereo still works and is included. It has been pampered since day one and is in need of nothing but someone to enjoy her.
