This is an UNBELIEVABLE Original 1948 Chrysler Windsor Club Coupe.
I bought this car in the San Francisco Bay Area when I was 22 years old, my first Classic Car, in 1978...
When I moved to Southern California in 1980, I brought it with me. I absolutely loved this car, with its very special Transmission, refered to by Chrysler as Fluidmatic or Simplimatic. It has 2 speeds in Low gear and 2 speeds in High gear and Reverse...kind of a Semi-Automatic Transmission.
Well, by 1981, the transmission was stuck in High Gear, and me being a penniless young man, was forced to sell it. I sold it locally here close to my hometown.
As I got older, I was always yearning for another 1946-48 Chrysler, years passed and then, 36 years later, in April of 2016, my car showed up for sale. It looked EXACTLY THE SAME AS WHEN I SOLD IT. I was so emotional about it... she was still stuck in High gear, the interior was aged, and she had not been driven at all in those 36 years. It had been stored inside all these years, I had kept the Original Key and it fit right into the door lock and unlocked it. The family who inherited this car could not find the keys, so they put a new ignition in, but I still have the original and it opens the doors.
I purchased my baby and we limped home and I immediately started fixing her ailments...it took 14 months, but in June 2017 we were cruising on the highway... she runs perfectly now and the transmission shifts like it was 1948 again.
I have 3 videos for you to watch, you should look at them, it really helps with visuals. They are on you tube under 1948 Chrysler...Lance Bennett
In the 14 month restoration I had most of the work professionally done. I bought 95 percent of the parts, that needed replacing or rebuilt from Andy Bernbaum in Massachusetts...EVERY part was perfect, I can't say enough great things about this supplier.
I purchased the interior Headliner and Door Panel Material from SMS auto fabrics in Canby, Oregon.
I spared no expense with all of this work and purchased only the finest, CORRECT parts for this emotional restoration
This is such a beautiful ORIGINAL, BLACK PLATE California Car, she deserved the best...I included a few pictures of the inside of doors, so you could see the pristine shape of the floor and metal work, NO RUST in the door bottoms, super clean. The surface rust you see on the outside is just patina, the metal on these cars is so thick, it is like a rhinoceros.
I have a stack of receipts for the work done and parts purchased.
Okay, here is what has been done...
