History of the Imperial Crown Convertible
For 1965 the Imperial Division of the Chrysler Corporation placed focus on improving their quality with the flagship Crown model while refining their engineering in the process. The elegant and clean lines were kept from the 1964 models though a few noticeable changes included the new, horizontally split grille with the Imperial stamping up top. Additionally the headlight and bezels were sealed behind tempered glass lenses, which gave the 1965 model some European flair and lent to the instant recognizability of the model. On the inside, special and unique touches were present including 100 year old Claro Walnut wood inlays on the dashboard and door panels. Under the hood the MOPAR 413 “Wedge” V8 engine delivered 340hp while the column shifted “TorqueFlite” 3-speed automatic transferred the power into motion and resulted in a drivetrain combination that’s power and reliability rivaled everything that the Big Three could muster. Perhaps the most stylish offering was body Y25 for the 2-door convertible. With a cost of $6,194 the grace and style of the 1965 Imperial Crown Convertible was sought after by many, but with only 633 units built, paid for by few. Today examples have been seen in some of the world’s most premier collections.
