The Impala was introduced for the 1958 model year as top of the line Bel Air. It was restyled on General Motors’ B platform for the 1961 model year. The new body styling was more trim and boxy than the 1958–1960 models. Sport Coupe models featured a bubble back roof line style for 1961 which is the same year that the rare Super Sport (SS) option was first offered. The 1963 Impala featured rectangular styling with an engine turned aluminum rear taillight panel surrounded by a chrome border on SS models as well as a new curved instrument panel with indicator lights for hot and cold engine conditions. This particular example is a real SS with a 350 ci crate engine that was installed approximately 12 years and 40,000 miles ago. Believed to be a 3 owner car, the current owner has owned it for over 11 years and has made many improvements during that time. Right after his acquisition he had the transmission rebuilt and a shift kit installed which was about 11 years and 39,000 miles ago. Other significant improvements include replacing the wheel bearings, adding a high torque starter, installing new moldings, door handles, emblems and headlight covers, re-chroming both bumpers, new brakes, new tires, a new battery, new valve covers and a new air cleaner. In 2006 it was stripped to metal, the body was straightened and repainted in a gorgeous shade of red called Red Hot that looks awesome and all new weather stripping was installed. The windshield was also replaced during the repaint. It retains its original interior that still shows incredibly well, especially considering the cars age. It has been incredibly well cared for, runs perfectly and sound like a muscle car should. We have appraised this vehicle at $36,500 but we know the market is soft and we are eager to sell quickly so we have priced it accordingly. If you could see yourself cruising in this timeless classic you better pick up the phone before it’s too late! For more pictures and a video of the engine visit HotRodsChoppers.com SOLD
