Rare 1933 Chevrolet Standard Coupe-Mercury Series
Previous owner of 46 years and sons did an excellent older, off-frame restoration to an all steel, low mileage car. The complete car (even underneath) is practically rust free. The previous owners said it never experienced rain.
I recently purchased the car in Michigan. I had the car shipped to Texas where it is properly registered with a restored pair of Texas license plates from 1933. Texas law will require me to retain the plates when the car is sold.
The 6 cylinder motor is not completely original but according to my mechanic, made up of parts near to the original period. It does not heat up or smoke excessively. It runs with normal compression.
There is some dripping of engine and transmission oil as might be expected.
The running board pads are new and of the highest quality.
The carburetor is new. I saved the one that we took off.
The gas tank sending unit was replaced. I saved the old one. The gas gauge works but lacks some accuracy.
The windshield wiper vacuum motor needs replacement.
The window glass is fine.
Some seals have been replaced.
The tires are like new with very little mileage
The dome light is not working.
The clutch, steering gear box, starter and fuel pump were professionally rebuilt.
The ignition coil is NOS. New 8 V battery. The ignition contact points were replaced.
The car is equipped with the early accessories sold by Chevrolet including a heater, a non-working clock on rear view mirror, and the radio that requires a key that looks like an ignition key. All three items bear Chevrolet symbols. I did not test otherwise (here in Texas) but the heater fan does work.
The prior owners never used the radio because many of these old radios would burn out when the dried-out condensers and tubes had new contact with the battery current. I tried the radio once and I got good local AM reception. I then locked the radio with the key and put the key securely away to prevent others from turning it on. The car is all steel with a recent touch up.
The car is not perfect, but it is in beautiful condition as shown in the pictures.
It starts and runs excellently. I make it a point to take it for a spin once a week.
