Significant changes were made to the Bel Air for the 55 model year which included bold styling with tailfins and hooded headlights and it was also the first year for the optional 283 cubic-inch Super Turbo-Fire V8 engine. The 57 Bel Air was 2.5 inches longer than the 56 model and was considered Chevy’s top of the line model and therefore was given all the bells and whistles and decorative trim needed to make it stand out in a packed field of competitors. Original GM options include the heater, power steering, power top, two-tone interior, wheel knock-offs, front bullet style bumper guards, seat belts, AM/FM radio, fender skirts, tinted glass, an electric clock, electric wipers and dual exhaust. Dealer installed options include the interior lights, convertible top cover, carpeting, dual exterior mirrors, bumper guards, front and rear sway bars, spare tire and jack, front and rear ashtrays, a cigarette lighter, a tissue box and a view finder. It was frame off restored in 2016 and has been driven 1,904 miles since. During the restoration the laser straight L37943 body was repainted in its original color of Larkspur Blue (#795) which really looks elegant. The chrome was all redone, the trim was all polished and everything is in pristine condition from top to bottom. It retains its original 283ci V8 that was freshly rebuilt and purrs like a kitten. It was upgraded with a 700R4 tranny, an Edelbrock 4 barrel carb, a newer horn hidden under the battery and an electronic ignition. Other than the mentioned upgrades the car is 100% original.
