DESCRIPTION:
This is a RARE barn find. This truck has been well cared for and always garage kept, retired from service and stored in the family barn since the 1980's. Ol’Chev is in amazing cosmetic and mechanical condition for its age. I am the second owner. Prior to my owning it, it belonged to a wheat farmer in Nebraska.
I have gone over this truck extensively to bring it to road-worthy and car show condition and in fact the truck has won many 1st place awards. She starts right up, runs smoothly and everything works as it should - Dome light, Gauge lights, Heater, Horn, Hydraulic Dump Body, etc. Most rubber parts have been replaced. Original glove-box book, memorabilia and tools found under the bench seat are included. The screw-jack, handle, and spare tire bracket are included in the sale. The spare tire is missing. This is a solid all steel, rust-free truck. The floors, sills, and cab corners are perfect.
Details:
This 1947 Chevrolet Loadmaster is a two-ton truck that is finished in ORIGINAL Forrester Green with brown vinyl bench seat. It is powered by a 235ci inline-six paired with an unsynchronized four-speed manual transmission. Features include a hydraulic dump bed, a canvas bed cover over a custom steel frame, running boards, a power take-off unit, a vacuum-actuated two-speed rear axle, 20″ steel wheels, Hydro-Vac-assisted drum brakes, and a cab heater.
I acquired the truck in 2016 and subsequent work consisted of replacing the brakes, the front wheel bearings, front and rear axle seals, and rear wheel cylinders. All zerk fittings were cleaned and greased. The kingpin bushings are a little sloppy.
The fuel pump was rebuilt and the truck was given a major tune-up. Parking brake was repaired and the body bushings, rubber door seals and fender welting were replaced. A custom steel bow frame and heavy-duty canvas bed cover were newly fabricated.
Chevrolet’s Advance Design trucks were introduced for the 1947 model year and remained in production through early 1955. This two-ton Loadmaster example is finished in original Forrester Green with painted pin-striping and is equipped with a hydraulic dump bed, a custom steel bow frame, heavy-duty canvas bed cover, running boards, a painted front bumper, and a color-matched grille. The only rust spot is on the bottom of the passenger side cowl facing the inside of the door.
There is some white paint spatter on the hood and fender. Paint blemishes are shown in the photos. The front bumper and fuel tank were repainted, and a cowl crease was repaired with Bondo during previous ownership.
The 20″ painted steel wheels are mounted with CO-OP Farm-N-Market tires. The truck is equipped with a dual-rear-wheel setup, and braking is handled by Hydro-Vac-assisted drums at all four corners.
The cabin features a bench seat upholstered in brown vinyl. It’s a bit lumpy. Equipment includes new door panels and headliner as well as new rubber floor covering, new pedal covers and shift lever boots.
The cabin has a floor-mounted shifter and PTO levers, a turn signal stalk, a cab heater, and crank windows.
The rubber door seals, body mount bushings, felt window channels, headliner, door panels, and fender welting were replaced. The interior floor was sand-blasted, primed, painted, and re-caulked. The windows are a bit tight in the replacement felt window channels.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames an 80-mph speedometer and a combination gauge with readouts for fuel level, battery voltage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 63k miles, approximately 250 of which were added by the seller.
The 235ci inline-six features a single carburetor with governor and an oil bath-style air cleaner, and the truck retains a generator.
Various stampings are shown in the photos including the engine, transmission, and rear axle. This is a matching numbers truck.(see last photo.)
Power is sent to the rear wheels via an unsynchronized four-speed manual transmission. The truck is equipped with a power take-off unit and a vacuum-actuated two-speed rear axle. The engine, transmission, PTO-driven hoists, and rear axle weep fluid.
Please examine the dimensions in the photo. Do not bid on this if you think it might not fit in your garage or barn NOR if you wish to put her back to work. The only works she is doing is camping, tailgating and car shows.
Rust repair is expensive! For every dollar you spend buying a better truck, you save 4-5 dollars vs. buying a lesser truck and bringing it up to the condition of the better truck.
This is my truck and I did all the updating, maintenance and repair at my shop. I have the title in hand and I can also help with the shipping arrangements.
This truck would qualify for the 75th anniversary from the Antique Truck Historical Society. Ol Chev is available for inspection and/or a joyride.
