We are excited to offer on behalf of one of our clients this outstanding and very rare NSU Spider Wankel.
For many years, 2shores has been offering selected, finest grade examples of collectible automobiles. This very unique, small German Spider is one of those examples!
The NSU Spider is an automobile which was produced by NSU Motorenwerke AG in Germany from 1964 to 1967.
The Spider was the first Western production car in the world to be powered by a Wankel rotary engine. The water-cooled single rotor engine and standard front disc brakes differentiated the car from other cars of similar type of the period. The body was designed by Bertone.
First appearing at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1964, the Spider featured a two-door cabriolet body based on that of the NSU Sport Prinz Coupe introduced back in 1959. In addition to the folding roof, the Spider was distinguishable from the hard top car by a grill at the front. As with all NSU cars at the time, the engine was rear-mounted. It appears that NSU Spiders were painted either red or white.
Our car on offer is a fully documented 4 owner example. Owned by a German dealership from 1968 through 2008, it has been maintained by mark enthusiasts all of its life. The car has received the factory recall for a brand new engine in 1970 with factory stamping due to sealing issues.
The NSU was color changed from white to red many years ago, the paint is best described as driver quality. Technically the car is well sorted, rust-free and 100% roadworthy.
A truly rare and desirable example of German ingenuity during the 60’s “Wirtschaftswunder” period. These cars do not come to market often!
