’82 AMC Eagle SX4 (rarest of the Eagles—only 19,000 built in a 3-year run) with 52,000 original miles. It was featured in a national AMC club magazine article about three years ago. Bought new by an elderly couple in Johnson City, TN who drove it about four years until they got too old to drive. They parked it in a shed where it sat for over 20 years. Chevy mechanic saved it, sprayed in the original tan/brown two-tone color, got it running and used it as his daily driver for four years. It has the original 258 6 cyl. and the 3-spd. automatic. It's the DL package: has the original AM/FM radio which still works, electric clock (working), air conditioning (works, and updated to use modern a/c fluid), tilt wheel, tan vinyl upholstery (still in good shape, but driver's seat has some cracks--headliner needs replacing). New: power steering pump; all new brakes; new shocks; brand new battery, alternator, some new wiring; new driver's mirror (NOS); new center mirror (salvage); muffler and pipes (NOS); four salvage plastic bumper caps, painted brown to match--and many other small parts/repairs.
The not-so-great news: while sitting in that shed, the hoses that run the 4-whell drive dry-rotted. They have been removed, but not replaced. So, right now this 4-wheel-drive car is a 2-wheel-driver. My mechanic says this is a $600 fix. I never bothered with it, because so little snow in Tennessee.
There is no body damage and no indication it was ever in an accident. There is no rust--just a typical Tennessee car.
I used it as my daily driver for three years, then put antique plates on it and only drive on weekends now.
